Can I use HIR bulbs in my car?
Because the filament geometry is identical in size, shape, placement, support position etc, cars that call for 9005 bulbs in their headlamps can take the HIR1 (9011) and cars that call for 9006 bulbs can take the HIR2 (9012).  A quick and easy modification to one tab on the base is all that is required.

Autos which take the HIR bulbs include: Audi, Acura, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chevy, Chrysler, Corvette, Dodge, Ford, THunderbird, GMC, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes, Mercury, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen, VW, Volvo.

  What modification is required?

The Toshiba bulbs are virtually identical in every regard to the 9005 and 9006 bulbs EXCEPT for extremely minor differences in the shape of the mounting flanges. HIR bulbs have a double-wide top ear on the plastic bulb base to comply with a law that requires different bulbs to have different bases.  This extra-wide plastic top ear can be easily trimmed or filed to make the HIR fit the bulb receptacle of an 9005 or 9006.  Once the trimming/filing is done, the HIR goes directly into the headlamp and the existing sockets snap on.

A few minutes work with a file or Dremel tool will greatly enhance the usefulness of these bulbs with regard to those cars which might not, strictly speaking, have been designed with these exact bulbs in mind. In fact, it's amazing how simple and easy it is to remove a few square millimeters of soft plastic. You can even trim them with toenail clippers, (please take a series of small "bites" instead of a big chomp). Five minutes, tops, and then these bulbs will fit in any car that takes 9005 and 9006 bulbs. Owners of certain late-model US cars have reported minor problems, easily corrected, with the shape of the vehicle's light housings. The housings never need to be modified in any way, only the bulbs. Please email if you have any questions about specific fit and suitability factors.

Your Responsibility
Given the extra resulting illumination, it is essential that your headlights be properly aligned to assure safety when using HIR bulbs.  In addition, you should check with your local authorities to be sure that there is no legal restrictions to using the HIR in your area.
What do HIR bulbs cost?

HIR bulbs cost $24.95 each. HIR 9012s replace 9006/HB4 bulbs, HIR 9011s replace 9005/HB3 bulbs. These Toshiba bulbs are the only true and genuine HIR headlight bulbs on the market. There are other bulbs available, of varying quality, which claim to be HIRs, but NONE of them employ Halogen Infrared Reflecting technology. They are either outright fakes or they trade on the loophole in the DOT regulations which allows "HIR" to be used to describe the bulb without meaning anything at all about the remarkable patented process that makes the true Toshiba HIRs so bright.

Shipping is $8 in the US, USPS priority. This cost covers up to 8 bulbs at a time (total per box). International shipping is $13 per order for Canada and Mexico, $15 all other countries. Please e-mail with any shipping questions. Shipping is not available to all countries.
